About Me

After earning my MSW from Boston University School of Social Work, I launched a career as a clinical social worker. I served in multiple capacities, from residential treatment, school counseling and family services for children with autism, to outpatient psychotherapy in a mental health clinic. Eventually I opened a private practice, which I ran for eight years.

I’ve always been a writer of fiction and personal essays (my latest publication is in the Jan/Feb 2020 issue of The Psychotherapy Networker). I am also a curious lifelong learner, and as my career advanced I looked for new challenges. I became trained in the Internal Family Systems model and decided to use this knowledge to develop a new writing method I called Writing from the Self. I then founded a therapeutic writing program called Room to Write, which I ran out of a space in Brunswick, Maine. I also began teaching psychology courses at Southern Maine Community College. This led to a position as a virtual instructor for the Simmons University School of Social Work Online Program, where I facilitated an online classroom and taught Master of Social Work students from all over the world.

Since 2016 I have worked for the MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence as a Tobacco Treatment Educator. I’ve so appreciated being able to leverage my psychology experience as I train health professionals throughout Maine in evidence-based tobacco treatment. In my position as a trainer I have enjoyed creating online courses, writing newsletters, building and delivering webinars, and a great variety of other endeavors.

Maine has been my home for many years but I grew up in Vermont, where my heart still resides. I’m a mother of two daughters, a loving owner of a rescue dog, and a diarist (since age nine). My favorite place to be is in a wide-open field.
